THE SHIFTING POINT IN DRIVER'S EDUCATION

ShiftPoint, at its roots, is a business that wants to inspire change.

We want to cause a shifting point in our students' lives by influencing them to take an interest in their cars through learning skills that are commonly overlooked. ShiftPoint offers the opportunity for our students to take the Vehicle Essentials Workshop free of charge after attending one. We encourage our students to come back and learn more!

Within our Vehicle Essentials Workshop, we cover three main topics: mechanics, maintenance, and roadside safety.

Under our mechanics portion, we cover the car basics, such as the four stages of a four-stroke engine, how power is transferred throughout the car via the drive train, and so much more.

Under our maintenance portion, we cover items such as changing a car's oil, checking and changing brake pads, looking at tire tread, reading voltage on the battery, checking fluids, and much more.

Under our roadside safety portion, we cover things such as what to do when your car breaks down, where to pull over, and whom to call. Once in a safe location, what to check, how to change your tire, and problem-solving skills.

The reason why we decided to start our Vehicle Essentials Workshop is that we wanted to create the opportunity for our students to understand what the car is actually doing and why it is doing that thing. For example, a manual transmission is much different than an automatic transmission mechanically. The understanding of the different components that make up a manual transmission helps the student to better understand what they are driving and the why behind doing certain things to prevent damage to their car. We also like to cover the basic mechanics of the car so that our students understand how a car actually runs. What the components are, what their jobs are, and how they all work together to make the car run efficiently. That leads into our maintenance workshop, where our students learn how to take care of these components because if they are neglected, it will shorten the life span of your vehicle. Lastly, our roadside safety portion will give insight into what to do when an emergency happens. How to change a tire, what to do if you run out of gas, and how to check your battery and oil. And the worst case scenario, what to do if you get pulled over, what documents do you need to have, and what behavior should one have when talking to an officer. What do you do if you get into a minor accident, who to call, what to say, what to do?

Without knowing, our society is becoming accustomed to automation. We have placed enough trust in automation that we no longer care to understand. There is now a separation between the things we use every day and our knowledge about these things. This is the gap that ShiftPoint is aiming to bridge. We all must learn to drive, and we utilize motor vehicle transportation every day, yet we have become so distant from what these vehicles are actually doing. If we can shift the way that we learn and the things we care to learn about, we will become safer, more knowledgeable drivers. We can become smarter and independent car owners.

Join our mission, and perhaps you might even find passion. Let's get in gear Arizona.
